Floor Care

Dust Mopping to Remove Dirt
Sweeping and vacuuming will remove most dirt, but not all. A good quality dust mop is the most effective tool for removing the finer particles of dust and grit that will grind off finish.

To keep you’re floors looking its best, dust mop once a week minimum. Dust more often depending on the amount of dirt carried into the house and the number of people living in the house.

Damp Mopping Spills and Heavy Dirt
do not let the cleaning solution remain on the floor. Use a clean towel and dry the floor. Even though the cleaners will not harm the finish, water can soak between the boards and cause damage to the wood. Rinsing should not be necessary.

Be careful to use only a damp mop, not wet, as excess water will damage the floor. Note: Oil soaps, liquid ammonia, and vinegar are not to be used on floor finish.

High heel shoes, especially worn ones, will dent any hard floor surface, even concrete! Encourage your visitors to take off their high heels on arrival.

Furniture, it is not so much their weight but movement that damages floorboards. Fit protective pads to the legs of tables and chairs so that they can be moved easily without the risk of scuffing the floor.

Water
Water can change the moisture balance within timbers and cause floorboards to ridge or buckle so it should be used sparingly and remain on the floor for the shortest time possible.
